A couple meta-things:

A couple meta-things:
1. Re: kozak incursion. There may be--depending on horde movements--some in-game spillover, though you can think of the larger problem as something to be ignored at your power level. I might want to play out some battles if the Overking's forces come into contact so anyone who wants to plug in that piece can at their leisure. (I'd like to develop some ideas I had for expanding BTA and BTP for larger battles and am in a wargame mood again.)

2. Having played in Gus L's game last night, one idea I liked (among several) was his encumbrance system (STR equals number of slots). I'm leaning toward adapting that for the campaign.

Comments

  1. STR = number of slots is frustrating but good in a logistics way. I'd like to give it a try, at least.

I know I'd be interested in a big ol' wargame match, whether or not it's plugged into the ongoing campaign foci or not. :)

  2. I'd be interested in some wargaming, even if Ultimate Pavol is not.

  3. I've been trying to develop a more systemized way of dealing with spells, magic items and potent individual characters/monsters on the larger one squad equals 20 ratio that we used in the Feral Shore battles.

  4. Str as items really works well with the overloaded die to cause resource depletion. It also demands the purchase of mules for travel and henchmen or caches for longer expeditions.

  5. Yeah I had that resource choice in the first 10 minutes with extra items in my fast pack. Hill Cantons gold suns are 1/10th lighter than standard D&D coins and I get the idea Gus L based on your blog post that your coins are light too? 1000 coins, roughly 10 lbs and compact, at a slot sounds about right to me.

  6. Coins, gems etc I don't worry about unless there's a ton of them. I figure gold pieces are like nickle sized.

Slots aren't really weight, pure gamification, especially because treasure on the HMS is mostly heavy junk - furnishings, bags of fertilizer or industrial material.

  7. big battles with feral shore crew or lower level crew.  also should the feral shore crew worry about the invasion at this time?

  8. James Aulds To get to us on the Feral Shore, the Kozaks would either have to sail en masse (unlikely) or make a trek through the jungle and the serpent riders and all that shit. Which seems unlikely to end well for them, frankly. It's a lot of work for little gain (oh look, they've got some nice farmland and a snazzy temple...and basically no wealth save for the Lords of the Shore, who blasted the hell out of our army with lightning bolts and then left.)

  9. Humza K I just couldn't remember er how bad we pissed them off last we visited the child hetman with the sand table. We still need to see the kezmerok Kozak as sometime

  10. I'm always up for a battle if you need another general.

  11. James Aulds you didn't leave him angry. Though you may have encouraged him a bit in his Sack Ostrovo plans...

  12. Str as max items is a good system. I tend to use the similar but less attribute-dependent maximum items = 10. (With the addition that like items can be "bundled" in groups like say 6 torches tied together, etc. to count as only 1 item, but this then requires an additional round or so to bring them to readiness.)

Dunno if I'm sold on all aspects of the overloaded encounter die yet, but I'm gonna try out a modified version this weekend to see having now played through it.

  13. Yeah I think I'm likely to just use the btb over-encumbrance rules and penalize attribute checks.
