We've got ~3000 grugach coming against some ~200 troops at the fort. We cannot win in a direct engagement, our supplies are going to last only so long, and I don't think the fort is that secure. On the other hand, we can (generally) channel the Grugach into attacking from one direction, we've primarily got a pike force against cavalry, we've seen no evidence of any spellcasters in their camp, and we're a whole bunch of sneaky bastards.
Rest of this post is premised on the idea that we're not suddenly legging it. That's a whole different set of factors to consider (and I'm sure some folks already have, in great and exacting detail :) ).
So, we need to focus on:
* concentrating our forces at the point of impact (when we're getting into fighting, even though we've got fewer troops, try to have heavier hitters at the point of engagement)
* Hitting their morale. We can't win through attrition or annihilation, so we've got to get them to break or wave off. This will be hard given that they're psycho-elves.
* Relatedly, psy-ops. If we can hold out more than a single night, Manzy and Tazrun can continue to shine re: nighttime raids. Maybe fomenting some conflict between the groups as we tried before.
* Luring another force in. Ironically, this is what we had done with the Grugach last time they showed up. If we can find some other patsies to divert towards us and hit the grugach, both die and we win. Downside: we're still going to be tied to the fort, and the winner can still come after us. Possibilities here include the Rousseauian Savages and the Serpent (?)?)?)?) Riders.
* Guerrilla fighting. If we're forced out of the fort, we'll need to keep on harrying the grugach (to divert them away from the domovillages / King's Ten). This is going to be difficult, given that they're entirely cavalry, we don't know the land that well, and they're not focused on holding terrain but moving through it.
So. Situation direr than I had thought. Any suggestions?

can we put the fire dwarves in the catapult?
ReplyDeleteIf it helps I can draw out a sketch of the fort and environs.
ReplyDeleteChris Kutalik That would be awesome.
ReplyDeleteJames Aulds I like the way you think.
ReplyDeleteLazzaro's plan is that he's glad he left a few zombies back at the Fortunate Dam so he can carry more than 4 armfuls of stuff as he flees the region...
ReplyDeleteOf course he'll kill as many grugach as he feels he can get away with before it comes to that.
