Second, we need to clarify how to monsters part of Phantasmal Force works.

Looking at the AEC, the 1e PHB and DMG, and Chainmail, here's what I can determine: the creature(s) in the illusion can be easily 'popped' (hence the AC 9), disappearing after any damage. Those who fail their SV, however, consider the monsters real and take illusory damage that can render them unconscious (believing themselves dead). I presume this unconsciousness persists for the length of the spell.

One difference between the AEC version and the 1e version is that in 1e the creatures must attempt to disbelieve (which is to say that they find the illusion suspicious in the first place), but if someone successfully SVs and can communicate that to allies, they get a +4 SV. In the AEC, they automatically get to SV, but don't enjoy the +4 bonus.

  2. Chris Kutalik One thing worth considering: with LL adopting an auto-SV for the three spells instead of the 'disbelieve' option, it renders Spectral Force as effectively worthless, as it provides no advantages other than making it seem more believable (by affecting other senses).
