So I'm not 100% sure where we stand re: immediate goals for the NN.

So I'm not 100% sure where we stand re: immediate goals for the NN.

A few of the things discussed last session:
* Continuing to match-make for the Monarch Formerly Known As Decade-king (continue with finding someone dumb/pliable, or go for one of the suggested potentials?)
* Bukavac Hunting
* Summer Country operations with the MFKAD-K
* Shank Lady Szara

Other things to do:
Defend and upgun barge - right now we're defending through obscurity, which is not great.  (We also only have a few flame shots for one of the turrets, IIRC. It is probably worthwhile to see what else we can get mounted on those turrets.)

Comments

  1. I like the idea of going to Miir, see if we can find a candidate there, and taking care of the Bukavac while we're there.

I think the Summer Country mission will have to wait until Chris has it ready.

Also, regarding an upgrade to the barge: the best bet may be to steal some stuff from the Anti-Cantons hexes on the Feral Shore map. There are large raygun turrets and the UFO, but that seems like it should be taken care of after we've done the matchmaking (as I need cash now).

I'm fine with shanking Lady Szara, but I think that should be pushed back a few sessions.

  2. Also, there is the return to the underwater towers in 25 days.

  3. Robert Parker I would actually suggest that we deal with the A-C stuff before long-term matchmaking. Going to Miir isn't too bad, but I don't want to go on this long "trip up the world-canal" business without having the barge available or defended. (Plus if we want to demonstrate pomp and impress folks, having a badass biomechanical barge is not a bad way to do things.)

The Anti-Cantons hex poses a threat to the domovillages (which are our breadbasket for the entire Feral Shore project) and ups our firepower if we can get through. Taking the Eld out there diminishes the chances of them being able to hit our stuff on the Shore*.

*Or alternatively draws more attention; I can't tell which way they're likely to jump.

  4. I am in favor of getting rid of Lady Szara as soon as possible unless we plan on completing the matchmaker quest immediately, as she is actively trying to complete it without us, and in a most unfavorable way.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Anthony Picaro has a good point. Shall we kill her next session, then head to Miir?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Given that we've revisited Rashomon last session, it does seem apropos to come back to one of the other defining moments of early HC and deal with Lady Szara.

Plus if she is vying for the ear of the D-K that can be fraught (esp. given her ability to toss ESP spells).

  7. Robert Parker That sounds legit to me.

Things to be wary of in her neck o' the woods manse:

    * There was some magical inscription on her walls, IIRC. I didn't have a read magic or comp lang prepped at the time, so no idea what the details are there.
    * A big ol' hellhound. The howl functioned similarly to a hold person, dunno if it was HD dependent (we were all 1st to 3rd at the time, I think).
    * Undead for sure. (Possibly including an undead Kugel as her servitor.)

    Things to pack: dispel magic
    protection from evil

  8. My thoughts on other tasks:

Matchmaker - 15000 suns! Probably time sensitive but not so much that we have to do it immediately.

Bukavac - Seems like it'd be one of the easier ones if we make a plan and have a robust party for the session. Always good to have more magic items. Not that pressing but desirable.

Summer Country - Sounds fun. Probably the most time sensitive. Hasn't come up yet.

Defend the Barge - I actually think this is the most pressing task after Lady Sz. I agree that probably the best way to do this involves going back into the domo-adjacent void. It would be pretty neat to do this and then cruise around in the barge doing the matchmaker quest etc.

  9. The howl was a fear effect. If Father Jack memorizes Remove Fear we should be fine.

  10. Chris Kutalik What did Anthony Picaro and I learn from studying the stone head for a week?

    ReplyDelete
  11. The reason why I ask is that we now have three examples of related biotech to study (the barge, the stone head, and the vats). It may be possible to start building our own armies, which would be a big bonus.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Heh, Anthony Picaro , it is not often that Lazzaro and BC are in agreement re: objectives and priorities. And sailing around in the barge with laser cannons sounds pretty frickin' awesome.

Robert Parker Which stone head are you talking about? I am completely blanking.

Regardless I am not quite on board with the idea of making armies without extensive testing first. It would be rather embarrassing to whip up a giant army of flesh-wrought creatures only to have it turn on us.

  13. If it makes you feel better I don't know either.

  14. Chris Kutalik Humza Kazmi The Zardoz head that one of the Feral Shore tribes was based out of. The Grot Men or the ... Other ones? Whichever was the one that we drove out. They had some primitive-looking cloning facilities, if I recall correctly.

  15. Ohhh the Norker head, that's pretty upcountry not a casual visit thing.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Gotcha. I think the plan was to take 20 dudes with us with walking wet watching the outskirts.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ok well getting up there will reveal that the fleshy pod things used to spawn Norkers have started to decay, some kind of maintenance missing.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hmm. Anthony Picaro did we take anything from there?

    ReplyDelete
  19. we probably need to deal with Szara immediately because she is actively working against our interests and is currently in a position to really set us back

i am okay with doing the Miir quest after that, but now that you mention it i am a little wary of ranging too far afield from the kezmarok/shore/Cantons region for an extended period of time

the Eld complex in the ash flats seems like something we need to take care of, but again, i am short on ideas of how to accomplish that given their air superiority. maybe they have reduced their alert state since it's been several months since we were last there (i'm not sure if that's even how they think about time) so maybe we can stealth into the Silo somehow? risky.

    ReplyDelete
  20. cole long Invisibility will get us into the area (just like we did last time, every spellcaster memorize it a few times then group-cast). Web or darkness would help us bring the flyer down, and some illusions from Manzafrain would help to either force a sudden crash OR make it look like we're a bunch of Eld or something.

Spider-climb and a rope would let us get into the top of the tower (unless it closes immediately after the flyer leaves).

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm also wondering if we could maybe rig a catapult to fire multiple stones tied together with a net, getting it to snag on the flyer and bring it down (or at least slow it) with the added weight of the stones.

    ReplyDelete
  22. that kind of ballistics would require a very specialized skillset and i think it would be able to easily get through a net anyway; i think we would be much better off getting into the silo by stealth if possible

    ReplyDelete
  23. Also if we can lure it out, either Ba Chim or Lazzaro can be lurking nearby, invisible, flying, and with a lightning bolt ready to go.

    ReplyDelete
  24. lightning bolt from the advantage of the silo seems like a better plan to me; even with the advantage of invisbility/surprise, i don't like the idea of shooting it from out in the open, it's maneuverable, deadly at range, and there's no cover out there

    ReplyDelete
  25. cole long Whoops, didn't see your first post there. I don't think that the ballistics would require that specialized a skillset. Between Ba Chim (merc and wizard, I figure he had some military engineering experience), Balazas (career soldier) and Okko (engineer) I think we have a solid skill base there.

But you're right, it would 100% be best to avoid fighting this thing in the open if possible; I'm just trying to think of ways that we could deal with it if we don't have a choice. The net isn't there as a plan by itself, but as a way to maximize the number of things we can toss at the ship to ruin their day. Lightning bolt PLUS net PLUS darkness PLUS color spray etc., and aiming/firing a siege weapon is something that can be done by a non-caster member of the party. (I am figuring that firing a bow or crossbow at the flyer is going to be unhelpful.)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Color Spray is ineffective against the Eld.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i think it would be hard to catapult a net over a flying omnidirectional UFO

    ReplyDelete
  28. If it was easy the government would have caught one by now.
