Cube of Freezing. Can create a 10-foot cube of ice in a turn three times a day. To operate however it must have an equivalent mass of water within 100 feet to condensate.

God Dust. Known effect: half-dollar size amount snorted or otherwise consumed will produce a +3 to all saving throws for six turns. Longterm use effect unknown. You have eight “doses” worth.

Research Assistants House Rule
Leveled Magic-User NPC or PC assistants reduce the total amount of time for research and item creation by a day times half the assistant's level (maximum of two assistants and a minimum period of one day). So a 2nd level magic user will reduce the time to make a scroll by a day.

  1. Re: research assistance, too chintzy? I am willing to entertain a counter-argument.

  2. Chris Kutalik It seems way more efficient to just have the 2nd level M-U make a scroll on his own, rather than assist with your scroll construction, which seems a bit weird.

  3. I see your point. Maybe just with research activity? Also I am mulling increasing your Identify percentage if assisted by a MU who knows ID too.

  4. No, which I am kind of regretting at this moment (but probably not as much after I run Tree Maze in a bit).

  6. I think it works as is. If you're making level 1 scrolls, then lvl 2 MUs work faster on their own. If you're making level 2 scrolls, then lvl 2 MUs don't work at all.

I consider the decision about whether to allow sub-mages to work independently, with asymmetric gains, a feature.

Personally, with this system available as is, I'd still never allow them the resources to make stuff on their own. Why give them the freedom to subvert my orders? Better to handle most projects directly, treating them as expendable extensions of self rather than independent operators.
