Cure Critical Wounds, Heal, or Regeneration will lift any of the downtime penalties for Death and Dismemberment table results. Otherwise the PC is out for those number of weeks (and likely sessions).
Regeneration or Wish are necessary to restore a severed/mangled, destroyed limb or organ. (And cost almost an arm and a leg.)
