Dispatch from His Most Luminous and Sublime Majesty to his Most Beloved of Nine:

Dispatch from His Most Luminous and Sublime Majesty to his Most Beloved of Nine:
“It has come to Our attention that the employment and reinforcement of military forces shall prove to the advantage of growing of our righteous reinvestment of our lost province. As such I am dispatching to King's Ten a full-strength unit of a Banner-Hundred of the newly-raised Illuminous Legion to be tested in field operations--lasting no longer than two weeks before returning to their training grounds of the Rock.

I will trust that you will make full and wise use of these troops, avoiding any costly depletion of their fighting capabilities. While the Hundred will be in your overall policy hands, actual field command will remain with its commanding officer, a one Captain Styrji “Otherpatch”, a trusted servant and delightfully colorful native of your Hill Cantons.”

Mine Not Yours,
Uloysalik IX, High King of Kezmarok Both On the Rock and Beyond, Harbringer of Doom to the Gloomful Fae

Postscript from Prince Vdelko:
You find enclosed in the dispatch bag an inscribed-piece of Undercity marble uncovered by our forces as they excavated the Armory. Of interest given recent discoveries?

[Translation from Classical Hyperborean]
“You have lifted up your kin
Sokkuth your king
Nezarr your idols
Your star-gods;
Lifted up the shrine of the Tyger
And the star of your god Ro Phan  to the zenith of Oldest...”
[the inscription ends abruptly here]

  1. So... What do we want to do with 100 troops?

Since they are only for two weeks we don't have a lot of time to hunt for potential targets. Moreover, they likely represent a sizable portion of the new legion and it would be a very bad move to put them at risk.

My thought is that we should make good with our allies by putting down the competition. Kill off the Norkers as a warm-up exercise and follow up by taking on one of the Domovoi villages.

That'll put us in a bit of a time crunch, however, as I'd prefer to scout them beforehand.

  2. We could probably also put off killing the Norkers, instead raiding them alongside Grotmen as a team-building exercise.

  3. Force Composition for Banner-Hundred “Red Hippogriffs”:
    Captain Styrji “Otherpatch”

    Lieutenant Bonestool, quadroon-ogre

    Sub-Altern Chukkla, semi-feral dwarf

60 Halberdiers, quality polearms (lifted from the undercity armory), half-plate , FC: 3, AS: 2

25 Sword and Buckler women, half-plate, short swords, spiked bucklers, FC: 3, AC: 3

    15 Dopplesoldiers, two-handed swords, half-plate, FC: 3, AC: 2

  4. Shall we deploy the Red Hippogriffs against the norkers as discussed?

  5. Nah, we're keeping the rum for ourselves.

  6. I think I'm gonna name one of their sister units in the legion the "Rum Krakens".
